THE FACULTY OF EXPERT WITNESSES PANEL

The Faculty of Expert Witnesses (FEW) Panel has been established to promote high standards of medico-legal expertise and provide law firms, insurers, and medico-legal agencies with confidence when instructing expert witnesses.

The FEW recognises doctors who demonstrate appropriate training, professional standards, and commitment to best practice within medico-legal work.


FEW Membership Grades

The Faculty of Expert Witnesses offers two levels of membership:

  • Fellows
  • Members

Fellows

Fellows are Consultants and GPs who have demonstrated an advanced level of medico-legal competence and professionalism.

To qualify as a Fellow, doctors must:

  • Complete approved Medico-Legal training and commit to refresher training every three years to remain fully up to date with current rules, procedures, and best practice.
  • Agree to comply with established standards of professional conduct, availability, compliance, and service through adherence to the FEW Code of Good Practice.
  • Successfully undergo an independent report quality review by SpecialistInfo’s legal panel through submission of an anonymised sample report*, assessed for:
    *Overall quality
    *Presentation
    *Compliance with Civil Procedure Rules (CPR)
  • Maintain a Medico-Legal CV on the SpecialistInfo directory.

Members

Members are Consultants and GPs who have demonstrated a commitment to medico-legal practice through appropriate training and professional profile registration.

To qualify as a Member, doctors must:

  • Complete approved Medico-Legal training and commit to refresher training every three years.
  • Maintain a Medico-Legal CV on the SpecialistInfo directory.

Professional Standards

Both Fellows and Members are expected to uphold high standards of medico-legal practice, including professionalism, responsiveness, compliance, and service quality, through adherence to the FEW Code of Good Practice.

Non-Members

Consultants and GPs listed within the SpecialistInfo directory who are not FEW members may still accept medico-legal instructions but have not yet met the criteria required for FEW membership.

Report Review Service

A small one-off fee applies for the independent report review process required for Fellowship assessment.
